Kuomintang fail, I myself can be responsible for it, and you can hold me entirely to blame for the ruin of our party. Should the Communists be successfully exterminated, I will co-operate with any member of our Kuomintang, whether he is a leftist or a Rightist in so far as he is enthusiastic in
the work of our Party. Anyhow, we must take care to
eliminate all the Communists first." I also said to him,
"You must not go to Wuhan. If you go, you will not be able
to return there and yet not become a tool of the Communists. If you are loyal to our Kuomintang, you should go to Nanking
where you can send for the Central Executive Committee to
come to you. If you go to Wuhan, and fail to maintain the
unity of the Kuomintang, you will be a sinner against our
Kuomintang."
This was all I could advise him. As regards my
behaviour towards Comrade Wong, I can say that when our
President was alive, I made no suggestions but only acted
under his directions, entirely as his tool. I admit that
I am the tool of our late President and I recognize that he
was the Saviour of our Nation and people; therefore I have
never raised any question as to what he had done. After
the death of our President, I took Comrade Wong as the right
man to act as a substitute for our President, and I have
treated him in the same spirit as I treated our President.
I have acted entirely in accordance with the resolutions he
made at military and political conferences.
Further as
proved by facts, I have never introduced or recommended a
single man to take up any office in any military or civil
department in Kwangtung, and have never shown any distrust
of Comrade Wong. From this it is clear that I had entire confidence in Wong, and regarded him almost as myself. I have
never raised any objections to any resolution he made,
whatever it might be. I behaved so when our President was
alive
